Chapter 4 - Coincidence(a snippet of chapter 4)

“Sabiiineeeeee…..,” I groaned, stretching my voice as far as I could. What the hell was I thinking? Obey? What an improper term. Where was she anyway, this Sabine. Gosh, I seem to recall her saying “I will not leave you alone there”. Hmm..Was I merely imagining it? Whatever. She has to be around here somewhere if not with me.

“And there I was, minding my own business when suddenly this stranger came up behind me and covered my eyes with his hands!” I heard Sabine say, probably telling her “how I nearly beat up my boyfriend” story she told to almost everyone new she met. I had already memorized half her lines just listening to the same thing all the time. How dreadful.

“And it must’ve been my super fast reflexes cause I immediately whirled around and punched him in the guts! You should’ve seen it! He was wincing in pain!” The crowd erupted in a loud roar of laughter portraying a typical happy, lively and oh-so-glam scene.

I could see Paul with Sabine being all love first, life second. I rolled my eyes in unison and walked steady paced towards them. It was enough to be miffed by Sabine’s outstanding disappearing act habitually, but to come and look for her to see Niko standing there? Mingling with them as if he were really close friends. Oh right. Shoot! He was friends with Sabine! This means, he’s friends with Paul as well. Which means, he’s friends with the rest of them as well? It keeps getting better.

“Sabine,” I called out, hoping she heard me, which she did because she looked at me and smiled for a brief second.

“Everyone, meet my gorgeous friend Nabilah!” she exclaimed, as though she was announcing a lucky draw winner’s name. Her friends looked at me and said hello but no more than a hello. What a nice bunch, I thought.

“Isn’t she lovely?” Sabine tried. “Come here, Bil.” I went to sit by her in silence and pure awkwardness. Did she even think I will be liked by her friends? Seriously, her new friends are the kind of people who dress like they’re hookers. I don’t mix with such people but since Sabine’s so desperate to fit in, she doesn’t mind hanging out with them. I tried to make a conversation with her using my eyes as she was too busy yapping away to her new blondes.

Niko was sniggering at me being all alone and silent next to my best friend. I guessed he was just the same as me cause he wasn’t speaking to anyone either. He plopped himself down next to me as though it was the most natural thing to do considering we fought every time we met. I just stared at him make himself comfortable on the sofa we sat on meant for only two people.

“Aahhh... This couch is really comfy,” he said, looking smugly at me. I rolled my eyes, again.

“You seem to be enjoying yourself pretty much,” I said, folding my arms. “Tormenting me is one of your activities.”
